Privacy
Ghibli Mood ON is a small, independent animation channel and this site is its quiet corner. We collect as little as we can, we do not run advertising, and we use no third-party analytics or tracking pixels. We do count visits ourselves — without cookies and without identifying anyone. This page explains, plainly, what is stored and why.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by Ghibli Mood ON. For any question about your data — including a request to see it or delete it — write to contact@ghiblimoodon.com and we will answer.
If you never sign in
You can browse every episode, mood, collection and article without an account. In that case we store no personal data about you at all.
A few small preferences are kept in your own browser so the site behaves the way you left it: your language choice, whether you dismissed the language suggestion or the new-episode notice, whether seasonal atmosphere is switched off, and an unsent Evening Pages draft. These stay on your device and are never sent to us as a profile.
If you create an account
An account lets you comment, vote in the weekly poll, keep an Evening Pages archive, save episodes and collect lanterns. To do that we store your email address, a display name if you set one, an optional country, and an avatar if you signed in with Google.
We also store what you choose to create: your comments, your poll vote, your journal entries, your watch progress, your saved episodes and favourite moods, and the badges you have earned.
You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it at any time by writing to contact@ghiblimoodon.com.
Comments and translation
Comments are checked automatically against a word list before they appear — no human reads them first, and nothing is sent to an outside moderation service.
So that readers in other languages can follow along, comments may be translated automatically using Google's Gemini API. Only the comment text is sent; your name, email and account are not.
Watching episodes
Episodes are embedded from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which means YouTube does not set its usual advertising cookies unless you actually start playback. Once you press play, YouTube receives the request and its own terms apply.
Notifications
If you turn on episode notifications, your browser gives us an anonymous subscription address so we can send the alert. It is not linked to your identity and you can turn it off in your browser at any time.
If you subscribe to the letter, we store your email address, the language you were reading in so the letter arrives in it, and the page you subscribed from. Nothing is sent until you click the confirmation link. Every letter carries a working unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops it immediately. The letters carry no tracking pixel and no click tracking — we cannot tell whether you opened one.
The community invitation
There is no community space yet. If one is ever set up, we would like to invite the people who asked for it — and only them.
That is why the tick box is separate from everything else and starts empty. An address you gave us for the letter, or for your account, is not used for an invitation: that is a different purpose, and consent for one is not consent for the other.
When you tick it we record that you did, when, and which version of the wording you agreed to. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to contact@ghiblimoodon.com.
Counting visits
We count how many people read the site, in which language, from which country and which pages they open. We also record, as plain numbers, how long a page stayed open and how far down it was scrolled, whether the in-page player was started, and whether a link to YouTube was clicked — so we can tell which writing is actually read. If you are signed in, a visit is linked to your account so member and anonymous use can be told apart. All of this is done without cookies and without any identifier stored on your device. We never record what you type, where your mouse moves, or the contents of your journal.
To avoid counting the same visit twice in a day, the server makes a one-way fingerprint from your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and a random daily key. Your IP address is never written down — it exists only for the moment that fingerprint is calculated. The daily key is thrown away the next day, which makes it technically impossible to connect your visits across days, even for us.
We keep the page path but not the query string, and the country but not the city. The fingerprint is erased after seven days and the whole record is deleted after ninety.
Writing to us
If you use the contact form we keep your name, email and message so we can reply. Nothing more is done with it.
Who else is involved
The site runs on Vercel and its data lives in Supabase. Sign-in with Google is handled by Google. Episode data comes from the YouTube Data API. Automatic comment translation uses Google's Gemini API. If email notifications are enabled, Resend delivers them.
These providers process data on our behalf so the site can work. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising — there is no advertising here.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to contact@ghiblimoodon.com and we will act on it.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it.
