4-Story Houseboat in Heavy Amsterdam Rain Bedroom Under the Canal

Our four-story houseboat in heavy Amsterdam rain 🌷 Ghibli style ASMR: Dutch pea soup on the stove, dark rye bread and cheese, tulips in vases, and a bedroom with a glass ceiling under the canal.

Rain falls all day. Bram brings the houseboat along the brick quay between the tall canal houses and moors under the willow, while Saskia and Lieke bind herbs and dried orange slices into a wreath on the deck.

Then wet coats by the stove. Dried peas out of a stone jar, shallots chopped fine, celery and carrot into butter at the bottom of a heavy pot — and a long slow afternoon of erwtensoep filling the whole boat with steam. Lieke trims tulips and sets them along the window, the ginger cat asleep beside them. Bram cuts thick slices of rye and lays out cheese. Chocolate broken into a copper pan, whisked until it foams.

They eat by lantern light with the canal running black outside. Later the wreath goes up on the wall, the stove is closed, and a candle goes down to the lowest room in the boat — the one with the glass ceiling, where the rain lands on the water just above their heads.

No talking. Just rain, steam and quiet company.
